The Shape of Erosion

7.5" x 6.5" x 5"

2026

*The Shape of Erosion* draws inspiration from the weathered coastal landscapes of northern Taiwan, particularly the sculpted sandstone formations of Yehliu Geopark, where wind, salt, and ocean currents gradually transform stone over centuries. Hand-sculpted in stoneware, the work explores erosion as a force of creation rather than destruction. Openings carved through the form create shifting relationships between mass and void, while layered surfaces suggest the gradual accumulation of geological time. Developed through an intuitive dialogue with the clay, the sculpture reflects the same balance between chance and transformation that continues to shape Yehliu's coastline today—a landscape defined by constant change, yet enduring through it.
